Workers in Sao Paulo and other cities across Brazil are using the World Cup as a stage to present their anger. Transit and public service employees staged strikes earlier this week to demand better pay and living conditions, and threaten to resume striking when the soccer tournament opens Thursday. Heavily criticized for hosting the most expensive World Cup in history, Brazil has spent $11 billion on the event, which critics contend could have been better spent on social services.
