In an attempt to colonize, treaties were made with the Tawakoni - TopicsExpress

In an attempt to colonize, treaties were made with the Tawakoni for the area that was renamed Freestone County, TX. In 1860 half of the population of Freestone County were slaves. In 1861 Texas declared its succession and technically set them free. In 1867 my great great grandmother Nancy Cooper and great great grandfather Timothy Phillips were recorded as being married in Freestone County. This currently is the beginning of what we know of our family. Nancy was originally from Tennessee and Timothy from Kentucky. I dont know where this will lead me but knowing where you came from is important. We have a history and its not written in books.
