In an impressive first-time performance, the Aam Aadmi Party has scripted political history in Delhi by winning 28 seats and finishing first runners-up in 20 others for the 70-member Legislative Assembly, results of which were announced on Sunday. While 10 of its winners have a clear margin of over 10,000 votes, seven others won by a margin between 5,000 and 10,000 votes. Of the 20 AAP candidates who finished second, only two seats were lost to the Congress and 18 to the BJP. In RK Puram, where AAPs Shazia Ilmi lost to BJPs Anil Kumar Sharma by the thinnest margin of 326 votes, at least 528 voters had stamped NOTA. Congresss two-time sitting MLA from Sultanpur Majra, Jai Kishan, managed a narrow win over AAPs Sandeep Kumar by 1,112 votes.
