In anticipation of Oscar Wildes 160th birthday next week (he was born Oct. 16, 1854), a new book by David M. Friedman has just been published. Called Wilde in America: Oscar Wilde and the Invention of Modern Celebrity, it chronicles Wildes 1882 lecture tour of America. The tour was arranged by British impresario Richard DOyly Carte to help promote Cartes production of Gilbert and Sullivans operetta Patience, a spoof of Wilde and the Aesthetic Movement. This New York Post article plugs the book and informs Post readers about who Wilde is in terms *they* can understand -- comparing him to Kim Kardashian. nypost/2014/10/05/we-can-blame-oscar-wilde-for-kim-kardashian/
