In any developed society, the foundation for advancement is laid by the academia. The academic world of any developed society is the fulcrum for whatever transformation that a society can use to attain greatness. That is why you will find a situation where even religion plays second fiddle in most if not all developed countries because when it comes to wonders of the world, such societies know that it is not by prayer but only through well-thought-out academic theories and experiments coupled with vigourous implementation that can take them to the promised land of development. The key reasons why nigeria is still a cripple at 53 is because the government at all times have failed to keep its covenant with the people. What we feel is the greates problem in nigeria which we errorneously relate to corruption is infact a failure to keep an agreement with those you are leading because if you stick by your responsibility, you will not be corrupt. If I say I have done a budget for N4T knowing fully well I intend to spend N2T and return N1T as unspent funds and pilfer the other N1T,it is simply because I never in the first place kept my word about the N4T! The gej administration is one that laid its foundation on deceit;he signed an agreement for a single-term as well as zoningand came out to openly renege on that agreement even when he was personally a signatory;of course we saw the agreement in black-and-white. Now ASUU has been on an industrial action all these while and the reason is simple:the president has failed to keep his word:HE SIGNED AN AGREEMENT AND IS NOW TALKING FROM BOTH SIDES OF HIS MOUTH. Instead of the academia which is that bedrock of GENUINE TRANSFORMATION AND DEVELOPMENT to simply tell the president that real men keep their word,we are agonisingly hearing of a marathon meeting where they were pleaded on to call-off the strike for the good of the country.SO IN THE ESTIMATION OF THE FG,THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY IS FAILING TO KEEP ONES WORD? The larger picture as usual is lost on us;we are a nation where even the president is a dishonourable man that cannot keep his own word! Do you feel any rational being will take us serious? The issue is not about the length of the strike;the isssue is that ASUU as the bastion of advancement should see itself as the last hope for reformation of our heathen society. The academia should know that they are the ones that peddle philosophy and logic to us and they are the ones to be logical by understanding that precedent leads to same actions and consequences subsequently.Any society with an irrational academia will go nowhere;posterity behooves on ASUU to use this strike as a case study for how the leaders are to keep their word to the led. This strike is a very good opportunity to turn things around but as usual we will spurn it. But the sad part is that anybody who knows ASUU like we all do will know that ASUU is a conglomeration of the heathen;is it not the very ASUU that produced the man who has caused all these rot?is it not ASUU that takes pride in selling mere lecture notes at astronomical costs by caling them hand-outs and now in extreme case glorified textbooks?is it not ASUU that takes pride in sleeping with our sisters and mothers freely because they see their position as an avenue to free flesh?is it not the very ASUU that will in the end be more concerned with their allowances than the learning environment?is it not the same money-for-marks ASUU?is it not the same ASUU that will contract a students research thesis/project/dissertation to their cronies for the filthy lucre?is it not the same ASUU that will not attend up to 5 lectures in a 4-month semester? The issue is simple:NO NATION CAN RISE ABOVE WHAT IS BEING PRODUCED FROM ITS LECTURE HALLS AND nIGERIA WILL ONLY CONTINUE TO REGRESS WITH THE ACADEMIC BACKGROUND WE HAVE!
