In class today, my 9 year old was involved in a conversation - TopicsExpress

In class today, my 9 year old was involved in a conversation about the Ebola virus. The teacher spoke about where it came from, how it is spread, and the many deaths because of the virus. She is a very sensitive girl and is super worried that it has spread faster than doctors and scientists could create a vaccine for. Shes been freaked out about it all evening! Trying to calm her nerves, I suggested that it came from a part of the world that may have been a third world country where - their medical system isnt adequate enough to support proper health care. Then I decided to do a little research as I knew very little about it. What I came up with scared the heck out of me! The virus has hit North America! Great that the teacher brought something important to the childrens minds... but for 9 year olds? I have to question if there wasnt something more age appropriate? who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs103/en/
