In dialogue there are three kinds of appeal; 1. Logos or intellectual appeal. 2. Ethos or moral appeal. And; 3. Pathos or emotional appeal. In a debate; If one can discern when to use the three kinds of appeal, he/she will be more effective than his opponent. For the audience is either susceptible pathos, ethos, or logos. Hence; He who can discern which of the three they are susceptible to will win them over. However he may loose to the truth. But he who wins the debate for truth can loose the audience by using the wrong appeal.
