In early November, a very thin and frail mother dog was found - TopicsExpress

In early November, a very thin and frail mother dog was found taking shelter in a vacant garage with her litter of newborn puppies. Luckily somebody did spot her and called us immediately asking for help. What our Humane Officers found was a beautiful brown and white pit bull hovered over her babies in the cold with nothing more than a sheet covered in dirt and mulch to lay on. You could see every bone in her body and it was evident that she was giving all that she had to her pups and was so weak she could barely walk. It looked as though she had given birth in that filthy garage no more than 48 hours before they were found. Once mom and her pups were safely loaded up and transferred back to our facility, staff worked to make this beautiful family as comfortable as possible. The very first thing mom did was scarf down food and drink water as though she had not had it in a very long time. And then she instantly passed out for a peaceful nap. Probably the most at peace this dog has ever been in her life. Eventually staff named the mother dog Galaxy and we watched as she gained strength and her puppies grew. With our constant supervision and help along the way as needed, this family absolutely blossomed. Over the weeks it eventually became time that the puppies could be separated from Galaxy and go into foster care for that necessary start in training and socialization outside of this atmosphere. And finally, it was time for Galaxy to live life as a dog and no longer be the mom working around the clock to keep her puppies as healthy and happy as can be. At this time, we are happy to say that both Galaxy and all of her puppies have been fully vetted and have been put up for adoption. In fact, most of the puppies have now been placed into loving homes and only 2 remain here with us as of now. Galaxy, 3 yrs old and a total sweetheart, is still here waiting to be adopted also. As you can see by looking through all of the photos, it has been quite a journey for this family. Many of the animals here with us go through a similar type of situation. They come in at their worst and leave to go start the very best of second chances in life. If you would like more information about Galaxy and her 2 puppies Satchal and Celeste, please feel free to visit our website summithumane.org or call us at 330-487-0333.
