In entering the life of Connor Bade I got to know one of my fellow classmates on a deeper level than I would have normal class setting. One of the challenges of this project was the lack of familiarity I had with Connor. He was essentially a stranger at the beginning of the project. Thankfully, he allowed me to enter into his daily life gracefully but I admittedly had a little trouble at first being able to photograph without feeling like an intrusion. I was able to overcome this when I began to feel more familiar and comfortable around him in addition to forcing myself to photograph despite the discomfort. After that my main challenge was overcoming low-light situations and being able to adjust to them in a creative ways. In most situations I was able to get some useable shots with some camera setting adjustments. Others succumbed to blur from a quick shutter speed or to overwhelming darkness and grain. Outside of the camera, this project has allowed me to get to know Connor as a typical college student navigating his way through life and college. He has many passions including art, water skiing, and rock climbing. He works hard to maintain his studies, job, and fitness. It is his openness and willingness to show his passions that has given him many loyal friends. These friends are major proponents in his active social life. His ability to connect with others and relate to them on their level made him an enjoyable and complex subject to photograph.
