In his treatise De Mendacio On Lying, St Augustine made it clear - TopicsExpress

In his treatise De Mendacio On Lying, St Augustine made it clear that what is sinful in a lie is not the falsity of information but the intention to deceive another. He concluded that whether a word be true or false, insofar as someone has the intention to deceive another, he is guilty of telling a lie. Examine yourself, realize that no matter what lie you tell yourself about the littleness or Importance of lying, it remains a sin against God who is Truth. Let your yes be yes... anything added is from the Enemy says the Lord. Let us strive to be sincere in our dealings with people. The race to heaven is not meant to be easy, it is indeed meant to cost us something. Let us shun any kind of verbal lies and all kinds of cheating. Let us embrace sincerity instead. May God help us learn to be children of Truth. AMEN.
