In hopes of expressing our thanks to the veterans who have participated so far in the Bellingham/Mendon (MA) Veterans Oral history Project, APH Southern New England invited the project participants, family and friends to join us last Saturday afternoon, Nov 1. Our own Mary Tyrrell kicked off the program by sharing some of her story as a Navy Nurse in Guam during the Vietnam war, and shared some of her published poems about her experiences. Project organizer Marjorie Turner Hollman spoke about her experiences running the project, and offered digital resources for audience members to take home to begin their own veterans oral history project in their communities. Maureen Sullivan, Director of the Natick Veterans Oral History program spoke about their work and noted that the Library of Congress modeled its program after their long-running project. additional members of APH spoke about their work with veterans and survivors of war (in the Holocaust) and several participants in the local project spoke about their experiences. Audience members took this opportunity to speak with APH members, and shared ideas, stories and more. Despite the downpour, the weather did not prevent members and friends from attending. What a joyful time. Here are a few of the photos from the event :-)
