In just laying in bed thinking back over the people who have sown into my life as a gospel musician and minister. Not many has, but the few that did really blessed me; regardless of how offended I was by their constructive criticism or not...Man what a blessing! I remember one time in particular, we were in revival with Dr. Todd Hall here in Dothan, Al and his Organist the late Pastor Robert K. Graves was with him. Bishop Hall started singing an oldie that I really didnt know so Pastor Robert got on keys and and with no hesitation told me get on organ! Im looking at him like, not after you done played the white and the black off the keys Lol...So, I get on organ and we start playing and after several times of him playing this weird, but STUPID turnaround I was still missing it! He finally looks at me and says how many times you plan on missing these chords?I say lets do it one more time I think I got it. So we did and Thank God I had gotten it. Then, he changed it.... and.... starting playing another weird, but CRAZY turnaround and Yup, we were back at square one! Lol Anyhow, even though my little feelings were hurt I learned a very valuable lesson and here it is: Young music ministers, musicians and Minsters of the Gospel: Everyone that seems to be crucially constructive arent always out to make you quite or discourage you from doing what you been appointed by God to do. In the most genuine cases, they are there to stretch you and to contribute to your growth. At least this was the case with me! So if you chose to share you gift in ministry, as my grandmother would say, take ya feelings off of your shoulders and putin ya pocket and go on in Jesus name! Although that was my first time meeting Pastor Graves and last as he went home to be with the Lord shortly after, I thank God for that brother he helped me to gain a whole new level of confidence of sitting behind an organ and in general when it comes to doing what Im called to do! There isnt a service that goes by and I sit at the organ and not think of him; NOT ONE!! The opportunity to say Thank you to him face to face would be a great pleasure!
