In light of the history-making Mon. 10th Feb., 2014 ground breaking ceremony which signalled the commencement of construction works on the long awaited 2nd Niger Bridge, it is apt to say congratulations to Mr. President & his team for making the take-off of the bridge construction a success! DESCRIPTION: The 2nd Niger Bridge is designed to be an 8-lane dual carriage way with pedestrian walkways. The entire project is comprised of the main bridge superstructure with other minor bridges, interchanges/flyovers along the road alignment. The approach roads will also be 8-lane dual carriage ways with a total of 37km approximately. The project has an overall cost of N117.8billion under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) funding arrangement for a concession period of 25 years. Injection of funds will be in the ratio of 40:60 (40% FGN funding & 60% concessionaires funding). It has a timeline of 48 months. While congratulating the FGN on the commencement of construction works on the project as well as its design of a formidable funding regime that will ensure that it does not end up being abandoned, I am also using this humble platform to call on citizens/socio-political & economic watchers/critics to all play part their parts in ensuring that the project is prudently managed! This is not the time to sit on the fence & pray for the project to fail as to have reasons for FUTURE VITRIOLIC CRITICIZMS; rather, it is the time to rally round the project managers & executors as to ensure its success. Nigerians, esp. those of the Southeast & Southsouth extraction, should follow this project (all thanks to the Freedom of Information Act!) as if its their personal project & raise THUNDERING ALARMS if they detect anything going wrong! As a NATIONALIST, having thoroughly analyzed the impact this project is going to have on the socio-political-economic strata of our NATION, it is with exceeding joy that I welcome it! We still emphatically call for more! God bless Nigeria!
