In light of the unconstitutional arrests of eight peaceful water - TopicsExpress

In light of the unconstitutional arrests of eight peaceful water meter installation protesters in Glebemount, Wicklow Town, Thursday 15th January, Co. Wicklow Right2Water called for a peaceful protest outside the Wicklow Gardai Station at 7.30 pm in order to highlight this injustice. A few hundred people from the town and surrounding areas turned out to express their solidarity with those who were arrested. Co. Wicklow Right2Water were overwhelmed by the numbers of people who turned up to support this protest at such short notice. From the outset of the event, committee members called for a peaceful event. Unfortunately, after Co. Wicklow Right2Water called an end to the protest, one individual not associated with Co. Wicklow Right2Water vandalised a Gardai car at the scene. Co. Wicklow Right2Water would like to make very clear that we only promote peaceful and respectful protests. We do not endorse this behaviour. A huge thank you to those who supported the events, both the meter protests and the Gardai protest, you ignited the spark in our community. Keep up the amazing work and a cheerful moral, for we all have every reason to be proud of ourselves.
