In light of this evidence, the fact that fossil fuel extraction and subsequent burning of said fuels in power generation and vehicles is and will cause destructive climate change, and the fact it has increased cancer rates in indigenous communities down stream, it is clear that Rex Murphys recent derision of Neil Youngs stance on the Tar Sands clearly marks him as a colonialist corporate pawn and a pseudo-intellectual. Basically an old white man in a position of power speaking on behalf of those in power and working against those without power in the face of reasoning, ethics and the commonweal. Whereas Neil Young, coincidentally also an old white man, recognizes injustice and that he has enough of a public profile to spread the word on how harmful this is to individuals directly affected by it, ecosystems, climate, our nation, humanity, and future generations. And to counter Rex Murphys weak assertion that this much scrutiny is not focused on other equally destructive problems around the world; well were not talking about elsewhere, Mr. Young are other Canadians are concerned about a Canadian problem, and that is number one on the list of being our affair and worthy of our highest scrutiny. Mr. Murphy creates a false paradigm where those against Tar Sands are required to focus all of our attention and scrutiny on every other similar problem around the world simultaneously, otherwise our concern here is illegitimate. Well Mr. Murphy well get back to you when weve developed god like powers and can focus resources and attention everywhere simultaneously. That Mr. Murphy is a completely unfair expectation, a cliched trope often trotted out by those with substantial power and resources. And you can be nice as pie and Canadian Polite, but that doesnt change the fact that you show poor character when you construct such false and unreasonable arguments that support unjust, unethical and destructive ends. Rex Murphy and his ilk are part of the problem!
