In loving memory of Adolfo Duarte September 27, 1951 to September 5, 1995. I would like to share 1 of my most memorable moments with my Big Brother Rudy. I remember this 24 hour mission like it was yesterday and it starts off with my Bro picking me up with his son my nephew Tacho. Were going fishing he said get in go with us to San Luis Reservoir. I jumped in and we went to his house and packed up some burritos and filled the ice chest up with beer and took off. Not even 10 minutes into the drive the fan belt breaks and the car over heats and stalls. You think that was going to stop my bro from fishing? Heck no 1 phone call and within minutes a friend shows up with a fan belt and anti freeze. So here we go off to San Luis driving around and around as we start to arrive looking for Rudys sacred spot. The sun starts to fade away as it sets it gets really dark almost impossible to see whats ahead of you cause we are off road trying to find this sacred spot. Rudy decides to stop and park not able to find his spot. We proceed to unload the car as we put out our chairs, put the bait on the hooks and cast our lines in the Reservoir. With a burrito in 1 hand and a beer in the other we begin to talk about the RAIDERS YUP THATS RIGHT THE RAIDERS!!!! without warning it begins to rain so we move into the car as we staked our poles down. All night we didnt get 1 nibble or bite so as the sun starts to rise we decided to pack up and move locations. That idea changed real quick as Rudy starts to pull out and the tires just kept spinning. Oh my I said were stuck as we get out to go to the trunk to get a jack out to lift the car Rudy puts the key in the trunk key hole and turns it and the key breaks. Wow this trip was not getting better. We had to wait for a ranger to swing by our location to call a tow truck to pull us out of the mud. When we finally got pulled out of the mud we got in the car desperately when we noticed the car shaking to much as we drove off. We then stopped got out and looked under the car to find out the front end suspension was tweaked. We both got up looked at eachother and all we could do was laugh. We laughed so hard we didnt care what was going to happen next. The tow truck driver drove us into town and we called for a ride from our sister Esther Duarte. After 3 hours of waiting at a park in Los Banos my sister finally gets there. Right when I thought this nightmare was over I see my sister pulling in the parking lot in her 1987 honda accord with my mother, neice, and sister in law. What was she thinking bringing 4 people picking up 3 in her honda. Talk about the most uncomfortable 1 hour and 15 minute ride of my life we were squished like sardines. Well that was 1 amazing experiance that I remember the most about my Brother Rudy. I just want to thank you brother with all my heart you have taught me alot in life and cause of you showing me my way around automotive repair I never had to pay for a mechanic til this day. I never met my earthly father or even seen what he looked like but you gave me the closet gift to what having a father is like thank you so much big brother I miss you so much I love you from your lilttle brother David Valenzuela.
