In may 2002 there were over 600 Barter Clubs active in Argentina and neighboring countries, in both urban and rural areas. About 6,000,000 people were part of this network of micromarkets which functioned as a "refuge" to the inclemencies of a financial catastrophe unprecedented in our national history. "Today, this social experience can provide valuable ideas that contribute to neutralize future financial crises by the use of operating systems that strengthen the local development, human-scale production and relations among human beings by means of association and solidarity", Rubén Ravera said.
