In medicine there are acute medical problems that happen within a short period of time & if not dealt with can lead to serious consequences. Then there are chronic medical problems that tend to kill the patient slowly. They if not dealt with also lead to death. Pakistans current Acute Problems 1. Floods 2. Talibans & their ongoing terrorism 3. Polio resurgence 4. Drought in Thar Pakistans Chronic Problems 1. Corruption 2. Political instability 3. Economic crisis 4. Energy crisis 5. Water shortage (despite floods) due to lack of planning 6. Climate change 7. Feudalism 8. Food insecurity 9. Lawlessness 10. Health care crisis 11. Lack of education Out of all of the above, as a physician if my patient had limited resources & could only buy one medicine out of a list of prescriptions, the one & only prescription I would give him is TO ERADICATE LAWLESSNESS 99% of these problems have their root cause in lawlessness. Rich can get away with nepotism, murder, tax evasion, rape, money laundering, anything anytime........ Our judiciary is weak Our lawyers are weak Our law-enforcement agencies are weak Our NAB is weak The fact that rich can get away with anything anytime encourages more & more lawlessness. Pakistan has tremendous amount of resources. However, those resources are in the hands of the corrupt who like to drive their cars on red signals all the time. All the resources are channelized to serve the rich leaving the poor poorer every day. If only our judiciary was strong, the dharna would have never happened. If the poor had the opportunity to get justice in Pakistans courts & if their FIRs were taken seriously, if 1 rich man was convicted in the courts despite all his influence, things would have been so different today. Energy crisis is a crisis built by the rich who can afford a generator. Economic crisis is a crisis built by the rich who can afford an international vacation every year. Food insecurity is a crisis built by the rich who tend to store large reservoirs of food. Healthcare & education is a crisis built again by the corrupt who are managing the ghost BHUs & ghost schools on paper but delivering nothing to the poor. Lawlessness is the mother of all crimes. These floods would not have happened if dams had been built many years ago. Those dams were not built due to manipulation of some feudal land-lords. Money has been spent on paper in the names of these dams BUT where are these dams?? Desalination Plant was set up in Karachi but someone somewhere never let it get operational. Why?? All Pakistanis have to realize that WITHOUT ERADICATING LAWLESSNESS nothing can ever be achieved here & things will never change. PERIOD.
