HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lawrence Lemaoana & Dame Barbara Hepworth! Lawrence Lemaoana was born in Johannesburg, South Africa (10 January 1982). He was the 2005 Absa L’Atelier Gerard Sekoto Prize winner who showcases photo-based mixed media works. His examination of the stereotypical male and clichéd notions of masculinity are challenged in his camp images of rugby players. Dame Jocelyn Barbara Hepworth (10 January 1903 – 20 May 1975) was a British artist and sculptor. Her work exemplifies Modernism and in particular modern sculpture. Along with artists such as Ben Nicholson and Naum Gabo, Hepworth was a leading figure in the colony of artists who resided in St. Ives during the Second World War.
