In movie hostage situations, a well-known sort of police strategy - TopicsExpress

In movie hostage situations, a well-known sort of police strategy trope is the xanax-loaded pizza, where the food demands of hostage-takers are secretly dosed with barbiturates to calm them down and make them woozy. My question is: is this accomplished by the police buying and then crushing up pills to put in the pizza? Because that seems super inefficient. Instead, I like to imagine that all SWAT teams have some kind of big plastic jar — like the things they sell protein powder in — of raw xanax powder that they mix into the nearest pizza sauce in an emergency. I like this because that seems both practical AND cool, and also because I one day dream of getting my hands on one of these secret police xanax canisters that I just invented in my mind.
