In my ever so humble opinion, ppl need to find the gods of their fathers. Get God back into the schools across the board for starters. No, religion of any particular brand should NOT be forced on anyone. But, with that said, this country was founded on Christian values and is by default the religion of the land. Public schools funded by a Christian state/federal govt should not have to argue over God. Thats what Hebrew school, Catholic schools, Islamic academy, Greek orthodox schools, etc are for. If you have a religion that differs from the default, PRIVATE or parochial schools are what you should be pursuing for your childrens education. Otherwise, either assimilate, or teach your religion at home. Why does the tail wag the dog in this country? Im not Christian. I do not however have a problem with the idea that God was a part of my daily routine in school for my part and time in it. Im a pantheonic pagan who sent his kids to Catholic school. Any foundation of spirituality today is better than a lack of it. The ten commandments are a fine place to start civics education, and anyone that disagrees should home school. I woke up thinking about this today because yesterday I went to bed wondering about everything wrong with what were allowing. Start putting it back together somewhere. Because otherwise, the new default is fear.
