In my eyes it looks to me as if many see God as the religious entity and there for you can not believe in it cause they think religion is not lethally and that is true. That is RIGHT religion has gotten corrupt plus that religion was written in a time wen nobody knew of the universe so they could not write those words so they subscribed God as they understood him. But that does not mean it is 100% wrong ether. Let me put it this way. If you would try to explain the mobile phone to a cave man how would you explain it? I would tell him that it communicates with other people through signals with others that have the same type of object. But he would understand that it by a miracle magic ear braze it communicates with others that have the exact same object. That is exactly what happened wen the bible got written. Man was given a gift to know of god but he did NOT understand what he was told. Exactly like the stone age man would understand the signals of a mobile phone as to be "a miracle magic ear braze" wen told by a modern man like you and me. I do NOT see God as a figure or a person, but more likely as a power source with intelligence and as any power source it has no looks and there for it can look like anything. Example of a power source that is NOT a god but also has no looks is electricity that can be made. But wen it comes to the power source of God it is NOT made though a evolution by its own evolution. We and all the universe is the product of its own evolution and at the same time it is its evolution cause the universe is God. NOT a biblical God. The biblical God was the way man understood him cause our intelligence level back then could not understand it otherwise. EXACTLY like the phone example I made above. That is how I would explain why religion does not fit the reality of God. NOTE: Though you do NOT believe in any God this you MUST keep in mind that it is said of God in different ways almost in all religions NOT only Christianity. It is said something like this: "Man can NOT understand God existence and how he works so man usually make a picture of that, that sometimes can be wrong" NOTE: those words are said in different ways NOT exactly like I wrote them but pretty much one can find it in almost all religions. For me that CONFIRMS what my example of the stone age man meting the modern man with the cell phone.
