In my last article I wrote, I lamented out factors and reasons why our sports was in ebb and the need to put things right to bring back our sports since its what makes Ghanaians happy. I will not delve much into other disciplines but only talk about football. Football in the country has fallen so much that, matches that fill the capacity of our various stadia in the country are no more getting the attention anymore. Since early 2006, after the AFCON in Egypt when Black Stars matches started seeing full capacities in our stadia when football loving fans in the country lost interest in Asantehene Kotoko/Hearts Of Oak matches which hitherto filled our stadia to the brim and diverted their attention and resources to Black Stars matches, has also reached a stage where some common 23 citizens of the nation who enclave themselves in a body of reputable entity like the Black Stars has taken the tax payers, whose little contribution are used to fund them (Black Stars), as nitwits and nimcompoops. The culture and tradition of the hoi polloi in the country is always for those who are paid with their taxes give them what they deserve, thus, value for their money. Without remorse, the Black Stars are in the country again after seeking for their $100,000 appearance fee by boycotting training sessions in Brazil to the detriment of Ghana, to take the Cranes of Uganda in the 2015 AFCON qualifier and the normal training auphoria and aura that normally surrounds the Black Stars especially from the people of Kumasi who are believed to be the biggest and ardent football watchers in the country, has totally diminished and even about to vanish. This go a very long way to speak volume of how Ghanaians do not condone mediocrity but always wish for the best. In as much as the Black Stars team have tried so much to draw back the supporters behind them, theyll not get that maximum and vociferous support from Ghanaians until respect and good ethos are exhibited from them. His Lordship Asantehene Osei Tutu II has always given his support and blessings to the Black Stars whenever they come to Kumasi to play their match be it friendly match or a competitive one. Its no news that he rose his Ghana flag aloft yesterday when the team visited him. After much and unthinkable support for the team when the team qualified to Brazil, journalist, particularly those in the Garden City and the people in the country where turned down by the senior national team during the biggest football mundial. It is not befuddling to see Ghanaians in Kumasi not giving much support to the Black Stars because they think even if they do, their thank you match will be given to Ghanaians in the Millennium City (which I dont think it is bad). What do you expect when the senior national team is underpinned by code of conducts to check the behaviour of the team in the wake of player agitation and team taking the country to ransom in Brazil? The code of conducts, I dont want to believe its only for the players because those in management or the football people needs it more than the players IF were going by the happenings in Brazil and some few tournaments that have gone by prior to Brazil. Let us not allow some hand full of people in the nation take us like nymcophants with their infantile thinking. We, the tax payers deserve better from those who are been paid with our money. I totally concur with what is happening so far with the Black Stars and the vociferous Kumasi supporters. HE WHO PELT OTHERS WITH PEBBLES, ASK FOR ROCKS IN RETURN.
