In my line of work I get to listen to a lot of sports radio, and it seems to me that Nebraska fans as a whole get a very bad rap from the national media for our expectations for the future of our program. We’re told this isn’t the 90’s anymore that we can’t expect that kind of dominance in this era of college football and we should be content with being a halfway decent program because, according to them, we can’t do any better. Here’s my question though; who’s calling for a return of the 90’s? Who was holding Bo Pelini to that standard? I’ve never heard a single Nebraska fan say that mid 90’s Nebraska is the standard, not a single one, yet we are always portrayed as unreasonable for the expectations we do have. What are we asking for? How about to not be embarrassed. How about to win a very winnable Big Ten West division, and then win the conference championship? How about to be nationally relevant and respected? That’s what we want. We’re not going to scoff at that kind of success and demand more, we’ll be happy to merely be relevant at this point. To be talked about as a playoff contender. That’s what we expect, and that’s what the new head coach will have to deliver.
