In my opinion, there is nothing to freak out about concerning YouTubes new paid subscription service. Heres what I see when I do my own research and stop listening to everybody else on Facebook: YouTubes new service, now in the final stages of creation, would be similar to Spotify or other so-called premium subscription offerings, with users paying a few dollars a month for access to unlimited music uninterrupted by ads. Labels that are refusing to sign licensing arrangements have been told their videos would become unavailable on all of YouTube, not just the new subscription service, according to a music industry trade group. - The Wall Street Journal What this tells me - in my opinion - is that YouTube is going to provide two separate services. You will still have the features that youre using now (if they got rid of YouTube entirely, what would become of all of the other creators using it for purposes other than to promote their music?). Some more sought-after and reputable labels/musicians are more than likely going to be exploited as a means of promoting their services by offering that specific company/artists catalog in their new subscription service. I imagine that some are going to be affected by this, depending on how well they cooperate with Google, but I think the rest of you are safe. If you havent been contacted, I think youre okay. Relax.
