In no particular order, here are 33 things Ive learned in 33 years: 1. Dont be afraid to look stupid. At the very least, youll make someone laugh. 2. Eat a ridiculously expensive meal with your closest friends. 3. Define what it means to love not just romantically but in all of your relationships. (See 1 Cor 13 for guidance--this works for non-religious folks too.) 4. Buy a round of drinks for your friends and understand what it means to be generous with your money. 5. Give a $20 to someone who has nothing. 6. Learn how to throw, kick, and hit all the balls in all the sports. 7. If you need to sort out your thoughts, go for a nice long drive. 8. Learn to love your own company. Go to the movies by yourself. Go to dinner by yourself. 9. Look yourself in the eyes every day and be in awe of the person youve become. Be thankful for your tragedies and triumphs because theyve gotten you this far. 10. Learn to play an instrument. Youre never too old to start. 11. Just once, if you can, save a bug instead of killing it. Showing respect to all life is a beautiful thing. If you feel you must kill it, express gratitude and acknowledgement of the life it lived. 12. Stand for something. Anything. Just be the opposite of apathetic at least once in your life. 13. Choose kindness over being right. 14. Buy a set of Legos and put them together. Just because you can. 15. Put your phone away. 16. Get lost in a new city. Explore. Ask locals where to eat, what to do for fun, walk around, look up, be aware, take it all in! 17. Write a song. Make up some lyrics, hum the melody, tap out a beat. You can do it! 18. Understand the difference between being happy and being fulfilled. 19. Fall in love with Julia Ormond in Sabrina. 20. Find someone who loves the same movies you do and who will also quote them back and forth with you! 21. Watch a Christmas movie when its not Christmas. 22. When you spill something, laugh. Its not a big deal, so make it a good memory. 23. Live a little: wear white while you eat BBQ! 24. Do something that scares the crap out of you. 25. Teach a kid how to do something. Youll end up learning more than they did. 26. Enjoy a coke from a glass bottle. 27. And for goodness sakes, eat real Mexican food, not that crap from Taco Bell. Find a Mexican grocery store in your area and go to its deli. You wont regret it. 28. Ask for help. Whether its setting up your wifi, having someone help you hang a picture, or getting tips on how to do eye makeup, people are usually more than willing to share their expertise if you humble yourself enough to ask for help. 29. Call your parents. Really. Its pretty simple. And thank them for putting up with your dumb ass all those years. 30. Clean out your fridge. Like really really clean it. Throw everything out and make that shit sparkle. 31. Give yourself permission to swear more. 32. Learn to accept a compliment by simply saying thank you. 33. You dont need to have an opinion about everything. Cheers!
