EVERY MOTHERS SON provides history, context and analysis of the events unfolding today. Twenty years ago, Anthony Baez was killed by an illegal police chokehold in New York City. Today, the overuse of force by police officers continues to tear apart families and communities from New York to St. Louis and beyond. EVERY MOTHER’S SON, our Emmy-nominated documentary, explores policing policy and practice through the deeply personal stories of three innocent young men killed by police: Anthony Baez, Amadou Diallo and Gideon Busch Boskey. EVERY MOTHERS SON has provoked engaged discussion and critical thinking among students in hundreds of classrooms, around issues such as: * quality of life policing and the broken windows theory * racial profiling * excessive use of force * the blue wall of silence * the rotten apple theory * effectiveness of the courts in cases in cases where police officers are charged with misconduct * community organizing for greater police accountability EVERY MOTHERS SON was on the national PBS series POV, won the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival and was nominated for a national Emmy award.
