In order to study human behavior, one must assume that behavior is governed by determinism, not free will. If human actions were completely random, as they would be as a result of free will, then the study of cause and effect would be futile. For all this, I still cannot help but feel solely responsible for my actions, and I hold all others to the same level of accountability. But if my behavior has a cause that is outside of me, by what reasoning am I responsible for what I do?
