In our enthusiasm, we may have sent you an email without the link to the Facebook post to share. Our apologies for this oversight. Please use the message below. Hi Carolina, We won! These are the emails we love to write, the ones where we can say that we are making history together. Our community of millions of anti-slavery activists has once again shown its power and its ability to influence change. Construction for FIFA’s1 2022 World Cup in Qatar started amidst serious allegations of forced labour. More than 1 million migrant workers were at risk of the nightmare of modern slavery, forced to work under the blistering sun, in poor and dangerous conditions, living in squalid accommodation, for little or no pay and worst of all prevented from leaving Qatar.2 We called on you for help, and you responded. Together we sent over 170 000 messages to FIFA, and they listened. Today, FIFA’s president Sepp Blatter admitted that widespread abuse of migrant construction workers was unacceptable and that fair working conditions with a lasting effect must be introduced quickly in Qatar.3 FIFA has now committed to working with the International Trade Union Confederation and the German Football Association to improve the unacceptable situation in Qatar. Carolina, this is the critical moment that defines a real campaign win. Other activists will celebrate and go home. We can’t because in order to ensure victory, FIFA must know we appreciate their action and are now waiting for follow through. Let’s send our message to FIFA thanking them for their response and supporting swift follow through as widely as we can by clicking here and sharing this image on Facebook. Click here to post to Facebook now. If you aren’t on Facebook, please forward this email to your network. By sharing this image you are also telling FIFA that they are still under the world’s spotlight and our community will be watching and expecting outcomes. The end for the modern slavery industry is not as far off as we thought it to be a year ago when we were only several thousand activists strong. Today, our numbers have swelled to nearly 5 million. Together we will change the course of history.
