In our ongoing efforts to increase Board/Public communications, we will be sending out a brief summary of the highlights after each Board of Education meeting. BABYLON BOARD BRIEFS Highlights from the Babylon Board of Education Regular Meeting of January 12, 2015: Mr. Goldberg and the 6th grade teachers provided an informative presentation on the New Wheel being used in the 6th grade curriculum which includes segments on Conflict/Opposition, Rockin Reads, Environmental Engineering and Global Explorers. Explanation of content provided, examples of student work and student feedback were explored. The presentation can be on the district’s website at: babylonschools.org/board_of_education/boe_presentations Mr. DAmico discussed a new option for the after school childcare needs of the community. The YMCA after school program is an option that places emphasis on communication and activities for families, and offers enrichment to the children enrolled. Pricing will be officially presented at a future meeting. Mr. Rozakis offered a resolution for the Board of Education to consider regarding the refusal to make previously optional field tests mandatory per the State Education Department. The Board of Education agreed to have the resolution placed on the February 9th Regular meeting agenda. Comments and questions from visitors included an inquiry about Babylon teachers attending a reading seminar, information about the reading program and book selection at the Grade School. Grade School garden work sponsored by the PTA will proceed under the direction of Mr. Goldberg. A Buildings and Grounds committee meeting has been scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. to provide the community with an update on the construction progress and the construction firm will address questions about the installation of artificial turf.
