In prep for the 2 Huricanes on their way, Mary and I went out to the Manoa Stream site to make sure all looked good before the storm. 8 of us planted approximately 3,000 plants behind 3 houses that have been experiencing years of harsh erosion with every storm. Tropical Storm Wali hit that night and we only found 10-15% plant loss. The neighbor next door decided to add his property to the installation when Wali carried away his retaining wall into the stream bed. Last week, Mary and Woody installed on his slope/clifflet and filled in any loss from Wali. Yesterday (17 days since initial planting) we found well rooted plants, firmly entrenched and 1-2 feet of shoot growth in 80% of the plants. Shoot growth was evident in even the most compromised areas! Vetiver to the rescue! Mahalo Manoa residents who have taken strides with green alternatives and solutions! Vetiver Hawaii will be at the Made In Hawaii Festival Friday through Sunday August 15-17. Booth 220/221 . Rubber Stamp Plantation, Nalu Urban Wave, and HI Tea-Shop will also be there!
