In preparation for Monday Missions I wanted to share with you some of the changes we have made to transition off processed food. This is a long list not to overwhelm you but to give you some ideas of where to start. We have been stepping through these changes, one at a time, for 2 years now. Just pick one a week: - Buy butter, - Throw out margarine, olive oil spreads and spreadable butter - Buy coconut oil - Throw out vegetable oils, canola, rice bran - Make salad dressing using olive oil and vinegar - Throw out all salad dressings in the fridge or pantry - Stop buying low fat milk, buy full fat milk - Wean off softdrink and cordials - Make chicken stock with leftover roast bones - Throw out stock cubes and stock powders - Buy take-away half as often - Find a good grass-fed free-range butcher or organic - Check pantry for nasty numbers (use Chemical Maze) - Bake some ANZAC cookies - Buy less sweet biscuits and switch to water crackers - Visit a local farmers market - Wean off fruit juice - Buy natural or Greek yoghurt, add honey and berries at home (mix half half till kids are used to it) - Stop buying flavoured yoghurt - Check the fridge for nasty numbers (use Chemical Maze) - Start buying organic unhomogenised milk - Switch from bread to mountain bread wraps - Buy less packets of pasta & sauce, precooked rice etc. - As cereal gets used up buy less and switch to Weetbix or Vitabrits - Cook porridge more, serve less cereal - Make a granola, buy less cereal - Throw out all dried fruit that contains preservative (including desiccated coconut) - Use up flour for school and fete baking - Try baking with almond meal and coconut flour - Find some easy slow cooker recipes - Practice making sushi at home for school lunches - Make mayonnaise - Check spice rack for premixed spice mixes that may contain filler or additives - Make noodles out of zucchini to serve bolognese on - Buy a water filter What are some of the changes you have made so far?
