In preparation for the Steve Nolan Show last night, I scanned last - TopicsExpress

In preparation for the Steve Nolan Show last night, I scanned last weeks papers for an item of particular interest to me. Found one emanating from Australia. Three human hearts which had stopped beating for up to twenty minutes have been successfully transplanted. Heart transplants are normally from brain dead donors, still beating and transplanted directly into the grateful recipient. But here, the donated organs, which had been dead were kept in a preservation chemical solution in a Heart in a Box and kept beating and warm for up to four hours by a sterile circuit. This could transform heart donation, rendering the new Welsh system of presumed consent as redundant as well as repugnant.
