In recent years there have been cuts to many important scientific institutions in Canada, science funding has shifted focus towards the commercialization of research, and government scientists have lost the ability to communicate their research to the public. On September 16 2013, scientists and their supporters held rallies in towns and cities across the country voicing their concern for the state of science in the public interest here in Canada.
