In response to the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuges Gator Hunt Plan, - TopicsExpress

In response to the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuges Gator Hunt Plan, Barry Downer, curator of herpetology at the Tulsa Zoo lashed out in stating that, people come to these refuges so they can see wildlife close up, Downer wrote. If hunting is allowed, the animals become wary and they are no longer going to be visible for the visitors. He clearly doesnt get what happens when tourists to these areas get to see wildlife close up. Alligators should be wary of visitors, when they are not then thats when we have negative consequences. Go to a zoo if they want to see a gator close up I say! Just look at this video (I also posted the other day) as it shows just how dangerous it becomes. Once one of these tourists who came to see the wildlife close up, gets killed or maimed then the gator is going to be removed and killed...a no fault of its own but instead at the fault of people like Downer. Hunting gators goes well beyond rednecks and guns, which is a common argument from these yahoos. Yes gators have lived millions of years...that was without an overpopulated Earth too. Weve encroached upon their habitat so now we have a responsibility to manage that habitat. Wild gators are not meant to be viewed close up by tourists and ensuring the population also means keeping them wary of tourists. These yahoos continually fail to look at the big picture and instead focus on false assumptions like torturing innocent animals...I tell you what...essentially taming gators for tourists is a far worse way to torture them. Heres just one video showing what happens...when I have time Ill pull up more disturbing videos, images and news reports (such as the guide who lost part of his arm and hand recently when he was coaxing a wild gator to get it closer to the boat for the tourists... youtu.be/a3enBpwcv_Q
