In response to the questions and concerns raised as to why I voted - TopicsExpress

In response to the questions and concerns raised as to why I voted to retain Speaker Boehner, I’d like to highlight where I think we stand at this moment. As noted earlier, in 2013, I was one of eight members who voted against Mr. Boehner. I have not changed my principles or my priorities since casting that vote. However, I decided to change my approach for the next two years. Thanks to the November elections, the will of the people has empowered a new majority in both the House and the Senate. With Harry Reid no longer in power in the Senate, more bills will be sent to the President’s desk for signature or veto. I want to be part of the group discussing the values and principles that will make up the bills going to his desk. It’s often said in the military that you fight with the army you’re given. Speaker Boehner and I often take different views, but I intend to work with him, the other Republican leaders, and those who recognize that the people are the real architects of our nation; that we’re just the instruments. Being in the room, I will know the Speaker’s point of view, and he will know mine. I will be able to hold him accountable for enforcing the rule of law and standing for Liberty. Congress must counter President Obama’s dangerous agenda. That’s why we are moving aggressively to block his unconstitutional abuses of authority. Yesterday, a group led by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy met to work out a strategy to block President Obama’s actions to award legal status to over 5 million people living here illegally. Neither the American people nor I favor amnesty. The President’s actions were unconstitutional and cannot be allowed to stand. The rule of law cannot be sidestepped by anyone – including the President. We must all work together as citizen activists and as a congressional majority to restore the Constitution as the Law of the Land. In the meantime, I pledge to you that we will not let the spirit of November be forgotten; I will fight every day to rebuild our nation, one step at a time, guided by the principles on which it was founded and common sense New Mexico values. #NM bit.ly/1IwDq5x
