In short, go Kurdistan. Looking forward to the Socceroos playing them in the 2019 or 2023 Asia Cup. Theyll field a good team as it happens. There is no stateless people more deserving of their aspirations for a state than the Kurds. Theyre minority friendly, politically secular and ideologically quite Left if anything. At the moment they run the best government Iraq has. Theyre interesting actually. The founder of the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), whose militant wing is now fighting ISIS, is Abdullah Öcalan, who is to my knowledge the highest profile leader anywhere in the world who espouses Murray Bookchins ecocommunitarian, Communalism as his politics. He departed from his previous Leninism whilst in prison in the middle of last decade and discovered Murray Bookchin. Go figure. Meanwhile, strategically, arming the Kurds is not the whole answer to ISIS (if defeating ISIS is the objective) because the Kurds wont chase ISIS across Iraq and Syria but just make sure they dont threaten Kurdistan (which is meanwhile protecting various minority groups). Theyll take the arms for sure so they can beef up their armed forces. A state of their own is what they want and I for one support them.
