In the 2-1/2 years we lived in Eau Claire, we learned a few things: 1. Dinner is Supper... or maybe Lunch (forgot what Lunch was... not the noon eat.) 2. Cabins were Cottages... 3. Caught my 1st Bass just above Chippewa Falls... FUN! 4. I remember pulling fish out of a small Park lake using a Phoebe when everyone else was fight to catch nothing using worms, etc. 5. Growing a garden there was painless... You planted it, let it grow, picked the goodies, all without using ANY WATER! It rained every week just enough to keep it growing! FREE! 6. The Cold season seemed to all the time except Late Spring and Summer! ... and it was C O L D ! 7. Never used Heating Oil before living there... 50 cents gal. (expensive)... Probably a lot higher NOW! 8. Had our own gasoline tank and just filled it up whenever we wanted just in the driveway! Buying the gas a little lower than Retail... Was fun! We had Arrived. :) 9. It was fun watching Pheasant & other animals wander through our yard. 10. It was fun SnowMobilling around the perimeter of our 2 acre lot! 11. Fun to just stop at a river or lake, fish awhile, etc. on the way home from work! 12. Yes, I tried ice fishing too... all I did was freeze them off... :) 13. Deer season is really big... a neighbor brought us a leg... with skin/fur still on it... never knew what to do with it... never ate it... Was interesting though. 14. Remember getting off the freeway (oops Parkway), making a simple left turn, spinning out, ended up over the edge of the road... on the way to work... in the winter time... A guy saw it happen, stopped, pulled me out & back onto the road, I thanked him, he didnt want pay... (normal way of life I guess... everyone helps everyone). It was scary... one of my 1st experiences on ICE! 15. Dressing to go to work! Heavy full length coat, Hat that covered ears, gloves, rubber shoes to protect the shoes... Then taking it all off before starting to work!! ... and putting it all back on to go home! Winters were extremely COLD 40 below w/ wind chill at our house. 16. Having a day OFF when we got snowed in! Was fun! 17. Being Macho, buying a Toro snow blower, then trying to clean the snow off the 15 x 75 driveway!! (I should have paid a guy to do it with his little Jeep equipped w front bucket scooper)... Froze my A$$ off doing that job! WAS NOT FUN! Those are some of the highlights I remember well living in Eau Claire, WI :) :)
