In the Book of John, Jesus revealed three facts that provide encouragement to those who feel they are, or may be in bondage to sin. He said, I am the way and the truth and the life (John 14:6); if you will hold to my teaching you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free (John 8:31-32); and, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed (John 8:36). With promises like these, you know that this battle can be won. You will be set free when you confront and deal with your sin (I John 1:8-10). The first step to deliverance is to confess and repent of any sin that burdens you and hinders your ability to live a solid Christian life. It is very important for you to recognize your need, and discern or understand what the problem truly is. Ask your pastor, or another trustworthy Spirit-filled person, to pray with you, and to help you defeat any influence that is not from God. Ask your Christian friend or pastor to pray for you and ask God to give you discernment concerning your need. Realize that this is a war in the spiritual realm. Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us that we are at war with the forces of evil! Our armor (Gods protection) is truth, righteousness, and the gospel of peace, faith, and salvation. Our weapon is the Word of God. You use your weapon by reading the Bible and meditating on what God shows you as you read. Then you speak His Word the way Jesus did when He was tempted. The battle involves prayer. Our authority and power to win are from Jesus (Mark 16:17, Acts 1:8). He will not only tell you what to do to be delivered from this sin, but He will also help you do it. He will not leave you alone under any circumstances. Attend a Bible-believing church for further help and spiritual growth. Seek friendship with Spirit-filled Christians (Hebrews 10:25). Read your Bible and speak out loud the promises you find when you read your Bible. You may be able to find a book or brochure with promises that pertain specifically to your situation. God will meet your need! You can expect that. In light of that, it is good to start right now thanking God for helping you. As you gain victory in these areas of your life, share it with a trusted friend. It helps to have at least one other person who knows what you are facing and how God is helping you. God bless you with His victory and His peace.
