In the CrossFit world, you hear the term general physical preparedness and hear us say that we use functional movements. What does that mean, exactly? Well, here is a story from another box in Kentucky, Rich City CrossFit that perfectly shows just what it means to put those functional movements into real life application. The story came from a member of the box who just this morning was on his way to work, and is told by the owner: He and his co-worker came upon a car that was flipped on the side of the road and a lady started running across the road to stop them. Her daughter was trapped underneath the car and the two guys that arrived first were an elderly man and another guy that wasnt in the best shape. They hadnt been able to get the car off of the girl. My member rushes to the car with his buddy and the 3 of them lift the car enough so the elderly man can pull the girl from the car. My member said he had never felt so strong in his life and if that had happened a year ago before he started CrossFit that between the 4 of them the car wouldnt have budged...This is the second time in 17 months that a member of mine has been put to the test in an emergency situation and both came out on top. You never know when a situation will arise.
