In the Fall of 2013, Redwood Early Childhood Center received a $3500.00 grant award from Crayola and NAESP. The Champion Creatively Alive Children grant provided $1000.00 in Crayola materials and $2500.00 cash to implement new art-infused curricula/curricular approaches. Redwood ECC utilized the grant monies to hire an artist in residence to work with children and teachers in their classrooms. Cassie Wortham, a UALR art student and graduate of NLRHS, began with with teacher in January of 2014. Each teacher was asked to select a medium that they were interested in using in their classroom but did not know how. Cassie worked in each classroom teaching the teachers and children about their specific medium. Each classroom created a final project which was displayed in a Pop-up Gallery showing at the Argenta Art Connection. In September 2014, Redwoods work was recognized in a Special Supplement of Principals Magazine - Young Students Construct Big Ideas Embrace the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching.
