In the United States, too many children have been affected by a rare lung disease. The doctors are asking the parents of children to be cautious. Alabama Department of Public Health is now investigating two clusters of respiratory illness in children, one in Mobile and one in north Alabama. Six samples have already been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing. “There is no vaccine for the virus. Treatment will depend on a variety of symptoms,” said the ADPH, stressing that it is important to prevent. “The six samples sent to the CDC will be tested for Enterovirus 68, a rare strain of the virus that appears to be more pathogenic, more aggressive, more likely to cause severe infection,” said David Kimberlin, co-director of the UAB Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at children.
