In the Wednesday White House press briefing, Earnest was asked - TopicsExpress

In the Wednesday White House press briefing, Earnest was asked about the fact that, as of last week, the outstanding federal debt exceeded $18 trillion ($18,000,000,000,000) for the first time in the nation’s history. About 40% of that happened during Barack Obama’s presidency. Earnest responded by pretending he was asked a question about the deficit. Then he answered that unasked question. The money-shots from his non-response response: The fact is we’ve made substantial, even historic progress in lowering that short-term deficit. The fact is we’ve now cut the deficit by more than two-thirds — or by two-thirds since the President took office. That’s the fastest sustained rate of deficit reduction since the end of World War II.So we’ve made tremendous progress on this. The problem is that although he avoided the elephant in the room, the debt; the 900-pound gorilla of the deficit remains, regardless of his assertions. Obama’s deficits in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 were the four highest years of debt the country had ever had. Period.
