In the fall of 2003, Lily and I were waiting to pick up Gabe from school. We walked past a pet store and saw this puppy in the window. I had NEVER gotten any animal from any place other than a shelter, but she insisted we go in (can you sense what a pushover I am?). At the time we had a wonderful dog named Willie, but he was old and frail. Then Gabe showed up and put in his two cents: Mom, we need to bring some joy into the house. I dont know what tv show he got that line from, but he had me. Next thing I know, Im buying this dog with papers written in pencil claiming hes an Aussiepoo (half Australian Shepherd, half Poodle). A few months later, Willie passed away. A few years later, we had Jaspers DNA tested for a spot on TODAY. Turns out, hes a mutt. The pet store (which closed down shortly after we bought Jasper) knew a sucker when they saw one. Truth be told, I love mutts....even expensive ones :-)
