In the fields last spring with Rudy. The mornings were cool and pleasant. We spent a great deal of time there, rising before the dawn to watch the sun come up, and of course, to search for rabbits. The rest of the time is spent training, with more exploring than anything else. Now, as the winter approaches, we are itching for the cold weather so that we can once again hunt. We have several land owners that invite us to their acreage to hunt and camp, and so that Rudys stories and adventures can continue unabated. It is my plan to finish the book in late spring, and put the last three years accumulated field notes and thoughts together. At least that is the goal, but it mostly depends on Rudy. If he does remarkably well this season, I may extend the deadline another year. In the meantime, we intend to enjoy as much of the outdoors and companionship as the Lord will allow. Tonight is supposed to be fifty-nine degrees, but we are well prepared for twenty-nine degrees and less, for this is where we shine the brightest, under the most adverse of conditions. Its not like being trapped on a mountain in a blizzard or anything like that, but it doesnt have to be. It just has to be miserable enough to remove one completely from their comfort zone, and therein lies the true adventure. Come winter, and quickly, and bring your worst!
