In the history of competitive Pokémon battling, there has been only two Pokémon that has managed to stay OU since the 1st generation. While Gengar is still 6th Gen OU, Starmie has fallen out of favor due to Excadrill being a better offensive spinner and Greninja being a faster and stronger Water-type Special Attacker. However, in 4th Gen OU, Starmies dominance is nothing to scoff at. It holds the highest Special Attack and Speed stat of all Rapid Spinners in 4th Gen and has an amazing movepool to support it. With 115 Base Speed and STAB Surf, STAB Psychic, Ice Beam and Thunderbolt, it can outspeed a myriad of common OU threats and effectively get rid of them using SE moves. Gyarados, Infernape, Dragonite, Flygon, Breloom, Skarmory, Heatran and a lot more common OU mons are outsped by Starmie and is weak to one of its many special moves. While maintaining an offensive presence, Starmie does its most important job of getting rid of annoying entry hazards. A bulky set with Recover will ensure that it can take repeated hits and hazard damage, and still spin away. Its fantastic Natural Cure gives it a practical immunity to status, especially helpful while clearing Toxic Spikes. Is a Special Wall blocking Starmie? Not to worry. Just Trick a Scarf or Specs onto it to ruin it forever. The one common weakness Starmie faces in 4th Gen OU is Pursuit-trapping from Tyranitar under Sand, Scizor or Metagross. Against them, a Defense invested set would help. All in all, Starmie is an amazing Pokémon. Its one of my most favorite Pokémon of all time and I personally recommend everyone to try it at least once in 4th Gen OU.
