In the interests of those who are still sane this is my column for this Saturday...PS: Have we gone completely blotto!!!! “You better watch, you better not cry, Santa Clause is coming to town” The words of a Christmas song just about everyone knows but poor old Santa now is probably suffering an extreme case of personality disorder. The latest diatribe has certain factions wanting kids no to sit on Santas lap but stand alongside him instead. The antagonists are suggesting that in this day and age of pedophilia one has to be very careful of something obviously so intimate. Okay on behalf of all kids who love the thought of telling Santa what they would love for Christmas I offer the following. It is my understanding that to be a Santa Claus in a store or for a concern that assembles children together...perhaps like a party....they have to undergo stringiest police checks which would obviously look at any past criminal record etc. Those who say some children cry at the prospect of meeting Santa are possibly right but then it becomes the parents responsibility not to enforce it at all. Handing out a lolly or two to the kids as they leave if that happens is a kindness NOT an invitation and though youngsters are taught at pre school not to accept such an offer from stranger, I hardly think Santa fits that bill. How in heavens name do they think something bad is going to happen to a kid if they are on Santas knee for five minutes! Ummmmm I think there would possibly be a lot of people around and I would like to know exactly how many pedophile Santas there have been. Now it could be that Santa whispers to them “where to you live”.......ummmm kids today are told if anyone asks that question to report it straight away and they would in this case too. Most little kids look forward to telling Santa what they would like for Christmas and having their picture taken but standing alongside him is like he is an all powerful not to be touched figure in a red suit and whiskers/ With poor old Barbie and Ken copping it and now this, have we gone crazy in this country Next thing you know we will have to get rid of the sleigh because it could be misread as meaning slaying ….cant have that. Now for another piece of supposed? Imagined? Christmas drivel. Some say we should now say Happy Holidays so as to be politically correct because some do not celebrate Christmas So that would mean Merry Christmas would not be right.....really???? Excuse me! I live in this country and have done for my long years and no one will stop me using terminology that indicates I want people to feel good about this time of the year. The word Christmas incidentally is old English but refers to Christ Mass and the “celebration of the festival of Christ” begun in the middle of the fourth century. Have a nice week...Christmas is fast approaching, Santa Clauses abound, so do Barbie and Ken dolls!!!
