In the last 20 days, I’ve seen BIG increases in mobility. The thing about goals: they’re subjective markers of progress that are given meaning by their importance to you and what doors you imagine they will open once they are achieved. I find many people have ‘flimsy’ goals when it comes to movement. They want to ‘improve their mobility’ but don’t know why and don’t know how to measure progress. Measurement can be a huge intrinsic motivator because of the CLEAR and objective standards associated with it. Measurement reflects (and helps to create) meaningful goals. Why? Because any sensible person wouldn’t waste time measuring something that isn’t important and provides no insight. But a word of caution: Not everything that counts be counted. And not everything that can be counted counts. So the first rule of measurement is: MEASURE THE RIGHT THINGS. Do not become a slave to measurement, but use measurement to help propel your movement goals to new levels of progress. More than anything, measurement is a tool to tell you where you’ve been on your journey and informs you EXACTLY how much further you need to go. I can’t wait to retest my mobility on January 26th...I’ll be posting the numbers once I do.
