"In the last 27 years, the economy of Uganda has been growing at 6.5% even when we did not have enough electricity. This month I have commissioned the construction of Karuma dam and Isimba dam. Karuma will give us 600 MW, Isimba 183 MW. We are working on Ayago and that will also give us more energy. Now, the question is, if our economy could grow at 6.5 % with bottlenecks of electricity, how much more will the economy grow now that we have embarked on full-scale infrastructure development? Economists predict that the economy will grow at more than 10% for the next 5 years. And we are going to ensure that we shall never be in electricity shortage again," President Yoweri Museveni addressing Ugandans at celebrations marking the 51st Independence Anniversary, Rukungiri District Stadium
