In the last few days Ive received multiple inquiries re: wind chill, how its calculated, and why/how its sometimes communicated as a feels like temperature. The wind chill readings used today were recalculated in 2001 to more accurately reflect how the combination of wind and air temperature feel on exposed skin using a more advanced, scientific method. Hooray, science! Here is how it is calculated: Windchill (ºF) = 35.74 + 0.6215T - 35.75(V^0.16) + 0.4275T(V^0.16) Where: T = Air Temperature (F) V = Wind Speed (mph) ^ = raised to a power (exponential) There is a whole lot more information here: nws.noaa.gov/om/winter/windchill.shtml including a frequently asked question section: nws.noaa.gov/om/winter/faqs.shtml
